Famous Taiwan writer/ creative director of COMIC production, Qi Xi-lin visited Korea for the 6th Asian Drama Conference. During his interview with Yonhap on the 9th at Palace Hotel in Seoul, he has made the above remarks.
Qi Xi-lin, who is the scriptwriter of “Meteor Garden”, is recently working on two drama series starring Korean stars. First is “Absolute Darling” starring Ku Hye Sun, and another one is “Skip Beat” starring Super Junior’s Choi Siwon and Donghae.
He said he had developed a strong interest for Ku Hye Sun after watching Korean “Boys Over Flowers“. She portraits the lovely and lively image in the drama, leaving him a good impression. Thus he decided to cast her as the female lead of “Absolute Darling“. Choi Siwon demonstrates a noble and elegant image, while Donghae, in contrast, shows an upright and fearless image.
TV series “Absolutely Darling” and “Skip Beat” have many similarities, both of them were adapted from Japanese manga, starring Korean star, and film production in Taiwan, it can be said that these are projects produced jointly by Asian countries.
Qi Xi-lin expressed that there may be some problems during the film production cooperated between Asian countries, such as adaptation according to viewers’ preferences from different countries, language barriers, etc. But it is believed that multiplier effect can be brought through the cooperation of different parties.
Qi Xi-lin has high expectation especially for “Skip Beat“. He said that this TV series may have a chance to become a project that represents Asia. With entertainment industry as background of the story and starring Super Junior members, thus it is expected to attract the attention of Western audiences.
Both “Absolutely Darling” and “Skip Beat” will have 20 episodes, and scheduled to be launched later this year.
Qi Xi-lin also stated that he hoped the 2 dramas could be released in Korea, Taiwan and Japan simultaneously.
